Chained Echoes

The Overdrive gauge makes you think about turn order and skill types every round. You’re managing tempo, not just spamming abilities.

Each character feels meaningful. Swapping mid-combat keeps battles lively, and the game keeps handing you new tools without grinding. Combo boards, emblem classes, Sky Armor. The Overdrive system forces you to balance offense and defense, which keeps every fight engaging. It respects your time too. Loot upgrades are deterministic, side quests unlock stuff, and there’s always a reason to explore.

The combat system is really good. You actually have to think about every turn instead of just mashing through random encounters.

The writing uses classic tropes but it works because the stakes escalate logically. Glenn is torn between guilt and politics, and the cast gets their moments. Towns feel alive with NPC arcs, and the world-building references past events without dumping exposition.

The game looks great for an indie. Expressive sprites, the soundtrack swells at the right times, and Sky Armor encounters feel rewarding after the buildup. The pixel art holds up throughout.

This is a great JRPG. The combat system alone makes it worth trying.
