This was actually one of the first games I played when I got my PS5 Pro. Never played the original Spider-Man or Miles Morales myself but I did watch full playthroughs of both on YouTube before jumping into this one. So I knew the story going in.
The game lets you swap between Peter and Miles whenever you want and it just works. Mid-swing character switching feels so good. They both have their own gadgets and abilities that actually feel different from each other.
They added Brooklyn and Queens to the map this time. The web wings are fun to use and those wind tunnels scattered around make getting across the city faster. The controller feedback when you’re swinging is pretty cool too. Combat feels better than I expected. You’ve got Symbiote powers for Peter and Bio-Electric stuff for Miles. I found myself playing really aggressive because the game rewards it but you can still pull off those air combos and perfect dodges if you want.
Boss fights surprised me. They’re not just doing the same attack patterns three times anymore. Some of them are basically playable cutscenes but in a good way. Even some of the side quests turned out to be actual story moments for the characters instead of just busy work.
Switching between Spider-Men during fights creates some great moments. Like using Miles to stun a group then immediately switching to Peter for a symbiote takedown. The bigger map gives you more neighborhoods to swing through without making everything feel too spread out.
Story wise you’re dealing with Peter’s whole symbiote situation while Miles is trying to figure out his own path. Both storylines work and that Lizard chase sequence was wild. You’re still playing through it but it looks like a movie.
The whole thing looks incredible on PS5. NYC actually feels like a real city with people doing their own thing. The music knows when to kick in during emotional moments. Everything runs smooth too.
Even without playing the first game I can tell they took what worked and just made it better. Got the platinum trophy after 26 hours and loved pretty much all of it.
